Richmond VA Engagement Session | Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
If you have been considering having your Richmond VA engagement session at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, then you are in the right place! I will go into details about why I love Lewis Ginter so much, some of my favorite locations in the gardens, outfit inspiration, and some of my wedding/engagement photo packages.
A Beautiful Garden Engagement Session Location
Photo sessions at Lewis Ginter are a lot less crowded than somewhere like Maymont. That can be super helpful depending on what time of year you want to take your photos. It does require a permit, and you have to go when they are open. The permit is $100 and all you have to do is purchase it at the check in desk. It covers admission costs for you and your photographer! The gardens weren’t crowded at all when we went on a Friday evening. We were there about an hour and a half before they closed, so your mileage may vary on how crowded it is when you go. There are enough spaces for it not to feel crowded even if there are a bunch of people walking around. Some of my favorites include the bridge over by the Children’s Gardens, the stone walls over by the greenhouse, and the flower arch over to the left of the entrance!

I LOVE a good white dress for engagement sessions. When Grace and Greg booked their wedding, I sent my wedding guide that includes some tips for engagement sessions. A few of the tips include clothing with movement, not being too matchy-matchy, and the beauty of a white dress in photos. Any time there is movement in your photos it creates more of a cinematic feel. Longer dresses give you that movement while also allowing you to physically move around without being self conscious you are showing something you don’t want to show. Bringing a change of outfits is also a great idea. It gives you more variety in your photos, and you might want some more casual photos of you and your partner to hang in your home. The great thing about Lewis Ginter is that they have bathrooms you can change in. No changing in your car here! Normally I tell women to bring a dress and then some type of pants for your second outfit. It allows for different kinds of prompts that you can’t always accomplish in a dress. For men, the more simple the better. Pick a plain shirt and then one with a simple pattern if your partner’s outfit doesn’t also have a pattern. You don’t want two patterns to compete with each other in the photos. For Lewis Ginter specifically, I also recommend more neutral colors so your outfits flow with all the possible backdrops.
