Are you looking for the perfect place to find cherry blossoms without having to deal with all the DC traffic? Windsor Farms in Richmond VA is the perfect place! We had to pivot with this session a little bit because the trees weren’t blooming yet…and then we moved the session up a little bit because it was going to rain at the original time. But we made it happen! Keep reading to get tips for your own cherry blossom maternity session.
Our session ended up being during peak cherry blossom bloom. This year it happened around March 26th. You just have to keep an eye on when the peak bloom is for the DC cherry blossoms, and Richmond will be about the same. Since it was going to rain the day of our session, we moved the timing up to before the rain was supposed to start. Plan A was to have the session at sunset, but since we weren’t going to get a pretty sunset anyway moving it up was the obvious choice. Sometimes when you are planning your session you have to be flexible, which leads me to my next point.
You have to be flexible to schedule a cherry blossom session! That might make it a little hard if peak bloom falls too close to your due date. But if you have at least a month of your pregnancy left near the end of March, it is worth trying! The extra flexibility comes into play because this is also an outdoor session, so you also have Mother Nature to contend with. We might end up having to move the date or time of your session to get the best photos. That being said, I also carry around cute clear umbrellas. So rain doesn’t necessarily mean we have to postpone the session. Just something to keep in mind if you want your maternity session to involve the cherry blossoms too.
I LOVE clothes that show movement in photos. Something that will catch in the wind. I also love the way simple clothes put the focus on you and your pregnancy. You can add layers to give yourself options in photos, or you can bring another outfit altogether. The most important part of choosing clothes is that you can move in them, and that they feel comfortable to you. The more comfortable you are the more that will come through in photos! When you book with me, I have a whole session guide I send out with outfit ideas, session tips, and a ton of advice.
