Ravens Roost Overlook is the perfect Blue Ridge Parkway wedding location for so many reasons! Not only is it beautiful and easy to get to, but the surrounding towns are also SO much fun to explore. Make a weekend out of your wedding or elopement and do it all! I will go into all my favorite details about Ravens Roost, along with some planning tips. I hope you find this full guide to getting married at Ravens Roost Overlook useful in planning your own wedding or elopement!
Ravens Roost Overlook is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, which means it is separate from Shenandoah National Park and has different rules for weddings or elopements. It doesn’t require any hiking. You just have to park and walk over to the rocks. This couple chose Ravens Roost specifically because it was easy (ish) to get to with wheelchairs.
Once you get off the exit to the Blue Ridge Parkway it is 10 miles to the overlook. It really is an easy drive. There is plenty of parking depending on the season. If you get married in the peak fall season, sometimes you will have to pull off somewhere close and walk. But if you pick off peak hours there is a little parking lot to use that you can literally see from the actual overlook. The parking lot is well marked and it is super obvious where it is once you see the sign.
If you have been checking out Blue Ridge Parkway wedding locations, this would be a great option! The overlook is such a beautiful place to get married that doesn’t require any hiking to get the perfect mountain views. This would be a great place to choose if you can’t hike (or you just don’t want to,) or if you have family members to consider. It is significantly harder to make sure everyone meets in the correct place on a trail. Here you have an easy spot for people to be able to find you.
How much does a wedding at Ravens Roost Overlook cost?
The Blue Ridge Parkway requires permits for both weddings and portrait sessions. There is a $150 fee that is due when you turn in your application for the permit.
How many people can be at my Ravens Roost Overlook Wedding?
There is a limit of 25 people!
Where can I read more about the application process?
The Blue Ridge Parkway permit page is linked HERE
Really any season is uniquely beautiful. You have to pay attention to road closures in the winter…and also enjoy the cold. BUT you wouldn’t have to worry about the overlook being over crowded. The spring you get beautiful greens. A summer sunset elopement would also be beautiful. Fall weekends can get overly crowded, especially during peak leaf-change season. So I would highly recommend choosing a weekday if you are planning on getting married here during the fall. Amanda and Mike actually chose my personal favorite weekend! They got married the last weekend of September, so right before the peak season. You still get fall vibes but all of the crowds haven’t caught on yet, and you don’t have the timing constraints you have in October.
I would absolutely LOVE to help you plan your Ravens Roost Overlook wedding or elopement! My photography style leans somewhere between story-telling and documentary. I will capture all the little in-between moments that you didn’t know you needed, while also helping you with posing during the portrait section of your day. I love setting up the moments, like Amanda and Mike’s first look, in the best light and then I step back and let you have your moment. My biggest goal is for your wedding or elopement to not feel like a photoshoot. I want you to remember the interactions you had with your partner, and be able to look back on the photos and feel the same feelings!
My wedding packages start at $2,000, and my client’s average spend is $3,000. If you want to know more, inquire HERE
